Rebutting pro-prop.2 videos…

The republican party has put out some videos featuring citizens and state legislators, supporting prop 2. You can view them at the marriage alliance homepage. Here’s a rebuttle:
what the heck? Having an amendment banning gay marriage will do NOTHING to make YOUR marriage have a strong foundation. You idiots, strong foundations don’t exist just because gay people can’t marry… they exist becuase YOU MAKE THEM.
Wake up, people. Gay people have been banned from getting married since 1997 (well, really since the 1800’s, but the most recent law was 1997). Think that’s helped your “marriage foundation?” The divorce rate is up, since that law passed. Gosh-golly gee-whiz, Eddie… banning gays from marrying didn’t do shit.
This gives the facts, and brings religion into it… According to this video, the state should take a religious stand against homosexuality. EXCUSE ME, but isn’t that ILLEGAL? Oh, and by the way… this little amendment does nothing for the country, only for the state.
Mobilizing texans. This is the first video that actually says what to do. This is probably the only video I can’t refute. It’s just about passing prop two. Doesn’t say why it should be passed, just that people should go vote. Nothing truly negative for me to say, here… I’d have preferred them to give some background about the proposition, without spin, but sometimes less is better.
One of our legislators.. He thinks that gay marriage is more important than healthcare, education, school finance, etc…? This is the problem with our state, right now, folks… Gay marriage is already illegal, yet they’re spending precious time on something that’s already taken care of, instead of on what matters.
Another rep… This is important to families. Uh.. okay. I guess I can maybe see that. I’m not sure how, though. She talks about the “sanctity” of marriage, defined by The American Heritage Dictionary, 4th edition, as “1. Holiness of life or disposition; saintliness,” “2. The quality or condition of being considered sacred; inviolability,” “3. Something considered sacred.” By the same dictionary, “sacred” is defined as: “1. Dedicated to or set apart for the worship of a diety,” “2. Vorthy of religious veneration,” “3. Made or declared holy,” “4. Dedicated or devoted exclusively to a single use, purpose, or person,” etc… In other words, we’re putting religion back into it. OKAY, even without seperation… we’re attempting to put CHRISTIAN doctorine into it. How many of you live in Texas and are NOT Christian? Raise your hand. yeah. exactly.
the last one… He’s asking us to pass an amendment to “make sure that only a man and a woman” can marry in Texas. Then talks about his own marriage. Says we’re a better state because we believe in traditional marriage. Says we should support the amendment and alliance because a marriage between a man and a woman “gives us the strength to grow and propser as a family, and as a state.”
So… gay marriages bring the state down? Gay marriages keep our state from prospering? Gay marriages make our state worse?
Those evil, evil queers! Something should be done! We should take to the street with shotguns, and bring down those evil state-defiling queerboys. My god, they’re trying to make this state TERRIBLE by attempting to have a lifelong relationship with someone they love! THIS IS TERRIBLE. Oh, WOE is us!! Please, please, let’s make this state better. Let’s get out there and ledge discrimination against this terrible menace that is making our state so terrible, our divorce rate so high, our family bonds so thin. Woe is us, Texas… woe is us.
